Two routes work. Free: search your name on people search sites, use the opt-out link on each report and check again every few months, because profiles come back. Paid: a removal service such as Incogni files and repeats those requests for you. Californians also have DROP, a free state tool.

Stop judging by how real it sounds or looks, because AI can erase the usual tells. Check the channel instead: hang up and call back on a number you know is theirs, agree on a family code word, and treat any push to pay by wire, gift card or crypto as a warning sign.

OpenAI may train on personal-plan chats unless you opt out. Strip names and numbers before you paste, or use a tool built for sensitive work.

Of the nine assistants whose policies we read on 22 September 2026, ChatGPT, Gemini and Mistral Vibe train on your chats by default, and each lets you switch that off. Perplexity lists model training too, without a documented switch. Claude only trains if you opt in. Copilot in Microsoft 365, Duck.ai, Brave Leo and Proton Lumo do not train on them.
