How do you turn off Meta AI in WhatsApp?
The short answer
WhatsApp help pages describe no setting that removes Meta AI from the app. Advanced chat privacy does block Meta AI inside one chat. Type /reset-ai in your Meta AI chat to delete its copy of your messages. Pages read on 23 September 2026.
In detail
Meta calls the feature optional on its own help page. WhatsApp writes that only messages mentioning @Meta AI or shared with it can be read by Meta. Your other personal chats stay end-to-end encrypted. The Meta AI circle on the Chats tab is a door you open yourself.
Advanced chat privacy is the strongest lever you have. WhatsApp says people in such a chat cannot ask Meta AI to answer questions there. The same setting blocks chat export and stops automatic saving of media. In a one-to-one chat either person can switch it on.
One limit matters here. WhatsApp states that Meta AI cannot access your chats either way. It can only read the messages people choose to send it. So the setting mainly stops the other person in the chat.
Deleting the chat on your phone is not enough. WhatsApp says you need commands to delete the Meta AI copy of your messages. Type /reset-ai in a Meta AI chat to reset that one. Type /reset-all-ais to reset every chat where you used Meta AI.
Meta AI can also sit in a group as a member. Open the group and tap its name. Then tap Meta AI and choose Remove from group. Summaries and writing help sit under Settings, Chats and Private Processing.
