Is DeepSeek safe to use?

The storage line is the heart of it. DeepSeek writes that it directly collects, processes and stores your personal data in the People's Republic of China. The same line appears in the European part of the policy. That part covers users in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK.

The policy is broad about your input. It names your text, your voice input and your uploaded files. Photos, feedback and chat history sit on the same list. Account data covers your email address or phone number.

Training is one of the stated purposes. DeepSeek says it uses personal data to train and improve its technology. The policy also lists a right to opt out of that use. You claim that right by email at privacy@deepseek.com.

There is a European annex to the policy. DeepSeek appointed Prighter as its privacy representative for the EU and the UK. Requests go to rep_deepseek@prighter.com. You can also complain to your national data protection authority.

DeepSeek says so itself. The policy states the services are not designed to process sensitive personal data. It asks you not to provide such data about yourself or about other people. Health details, ID numbers and biometric data belong outside the chat.
