Our verdict
Lumo is the safer default for anyone who wants their chats kept out of AI training. Proton does not train on your Lumo conversations and encrypts your saved history so that it cannot read it itself. Mistral uses your Vibe input and output for training until you opt out.
That opt-out is free and sits in your account settings, although the help pages we checked do not spell out the exact menu path. Developers may still prefer Vibe, which Mistral also offers as a coding agent for the terminal and the code editor.
On price, Mistral lists Pro at $14.99 a month before tax and Lumo AI Plus costs €12.99 a month; the currencies differ, so we do not rank them.

Does Mistral Vibe train on my chats?
Yes, by default. Mistral's help center says input and output are used to train its models unless you opt out, and Vibe users start opted in. You can change that at any time and it costs nothing, because the opt-out is an account setting. The help pages we checked do not give the exact menu path, so look through your Vibe account settings for the training option.
Is Le Chat now called Vibe?
Yes. Mistral's own site carries the line "Le Chat is now Vibe", and the product page that used to present Le Chat now shows Mistral Vibe. Mistral's help center states the privacy rule plainly: training on your input and output is on by default, and you can switch it off in your account settings. If you used Le Chat before, check that setting now.
Are Lumo and Mistral Vibe hosted in Europe?
Both point to Europe. Mistral says your data is hosted in the European Union by default, with an optional US endpoint that you can choose yourself. Proton says Lumo runs its models on servers in Europe that Proton controls and never sends your data to third parties. Proton AG, the company behind Lumo, lists its address in Geneva, Switzerland.
Is Lumo Plus cheaper than Mistral Pro?
There is no clean answer, because the two are priced in different currencies. Lumo AI Plus costs €12.99 a month, or €9.99 a month when you pay €119.88 for the year. Mistral lists Pro at $14.99 a month, excluding tax. Which one works out cheaper depends on the exchange rate and the tax you pay; Mistral's pricing page also has a euro switch.
