If you live in the United States, start with Optery: its free plan shows where your details appear, with screenshots, before you pay a cent. CORE costs $39 a year for removals from 380+ sites, less than half of the $95.88 Incogni asks for a year of Standard.
In Europe the choice is made for you, since none of Optery's five countries is European while Incogni takes orders in euros. Incogni's strength is that it runs without you: it sends the opt-out requests itself and repeats them on a schedule.
On Optery's free plan the opt-outs are your job; automatic monthly removals only come with the paid plans.

Is Optery available outside the US?
Only in a few countries, and none of them in Europe. The country picker on Optery's pricing page offers the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and a line in its FAQ reads "Currently, USA only". If you live in the EU, Incogni is the one of the two you can order: from a Dutch connection its pricing page shows euros and working order buttons.
Is the Optery free scan really free?
Yes. FREE BASIC costs nothing and asks for no credit card. You get an exposure report with screenshots of the sites that show your details, plus tools to file the opt-outs yourself. Optery's privacy policy says Quick Scan data from people without an account is deleted automatically within 14 days. Incogni offers a free Exposure Scanner as well, but no free plan.
Is Optery cheaper than Incogni?
Yes. Optery CORE costs $39 a year and covers removal from 380+ sites, while Incogni Standard comes to $95.88 a year, or $7.99 a month on that annual bill. Incogni shows its annual amount as a markdown from a higher crossed-out price and does not say what year two costs. Optery's larger plans, EXTENDED and ULTIMATE, reach 560+ and 635+ sites.
Do I need to pay to get off people search sites?
No, but paying buys you persistence. Optery's free plan gives you the list of sites and the opt-out tools, and the rest is up to you. A removed profile can come back, which is why Incogni resends its requests on a schedule and Optery's paid plans run removals every month. EXTENDED and ULTIMATE add before and after screenshots roughly every 90 days.
